Cecily Walker pointed out on the Code4Lib mailing list that this idea sounds a lot like CampCamp, only with more structured programming. The CampCamp wiki is available at http://campcamptahoe.pbwiki.com/FrontPage for those who want to find out more.

So far I have heard from about five people that said they would be interested in PowerlessCamp. That is a start. I have also heard from one person who thought we should “be honest” and just call it an “Un-Technology camp: get away from your work for a weekend.” I guess that would be fun, but I think we can do that and have some form of presentations as well.
Anyway, please, keep comments pro and con coming in. Also, if you have any thoughts on how we can move forward this, let me know. Would a wiki be useful? Something else? Maybe we need hand written letters and snail mail since this is a PowerlessCamp?

Welcome to PowerlessCamp.org. Powerless Camp is an idea for a conference to take place in summer 2009. The idea, first proposed by Dan Chudnov is to have a conference with no PowerPoint, no projectors, and no laptops. Actually, as the name suggests, it shouldn’t have any electricity. My idea is to have this PowerlessCamp at a camp ground somewhere in the northeast US. The topics presented should generally follow code4lib-related topics (basically software, mostly Open Source, for libraries). If you are interested, please read the post on my site linked above and Dan’s post and come back and leave a comment and let me know. If there is interest, I’ll expand this site and maybe add a wiki for brainstorming.
